Program Description: This program is designed to assist Manitoba’s agri-food and agri-product sectors in adopting and improving food safety and traceability practices. Financial assistance will be provided to eligible recipients for the development and implementation of food safety programs, food safety training, validation and verification activities and traceability. Food safety and traceability are not only important for public safety but also a requirement for many regulators, associations and customers.

Assisting Manitoba's young farmers is one of MASC's primary lending objectives. The Bridging Generations Initiative (BGI) provides farmers under the age of 40 with financial incentives and customized terms and repayment options.

The Bridging Generations Initiative aims to assist with the transfer of farm assets between young farmers and retiring producers.

The Building Envelope, Lighting and Ventilation Upgrades funding stream supports the assessment and upgrades applicable to new and existing agri-food and agri-product production and office areas and equipment that create energy savings and/or GHG reductions.

This funding stream supports assessment and upgrades that are unique to any programs offered by other provincial or federal agencies or programs.

The Capital Infrastructure and Investments program supports the growth and expansion of Manitoba’s agri-processing sector. The program helps applicants with capital investment purchases for modernization and capacity-building activities that enhance efficiency, productivity and environmental sustainability, by providing access to:
• The development and implementation of new technologies
• New markets through the implementation of quality control measures
• Streamlined and better managed operations, increased efficiency, and increased profitability by integrating company operations
• New revenue streams associated with offering co-packing services
• Co-packing services for brand owners who may not own their own agriprocessing capacity

Funding to support the adoption of cropland management practices that optimize operations and improve productivity

The Market Development program is designed to advance the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sector's innovation and business capacity to maintain existing markets and capture emerging market opportunities. The program will provide financial assistance to eligible recipients for market development activities that enhance the interprovincial trade and export capacity of individual businesses and improve overall domestic and international trade access for the sector.

Funding to reduce wastage of agri-food and agri-product inputs that occur during storage of ingredients and during processing by supporting the purchase of assets and systems that will mitigate wastage at these points.

The Market Development program is designed to advance the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sector's innovation and business capacity to maintain existing markets and capture emerging market opportunities. The program will provide financial assistance to eligible recipients for market development activities that enhance the interprovincial trade and export capacity of individual businesses and improve overall domestic and international trade access for the sector.

Industry Development Initiatives program will advance the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sector's capacity and competitiveness by providing funding to support incremental group learning activities, knowledge transfer events and resource development. The program will provide financial assistance to eligible applicants for activities that enhance the sector.

Supports access to community driven culturally relevant assistance services and the development of resource materials that focus on food system development and expansion, increases agriculture knowledge, business development, management and planning, risk awareness, and market expansion.

The Capital Infrastructure and Investments program supports the growth and expansion of Manitoba’s agri-processing sector. The program helps applicants with capital investment purchases for modernization and capacity-building activities that enhance efficiency, productivity and environmental sustainability, by providing access to: • The development and implementation of new technologies • New markets through the implementation of quality control measures • Streamlined and better managed operations, increased efficiency, and increased profitability by integrating company operations • New revenue streams associated with offering co-packing services • Co-packing services for brand owners who may not own their own agriprocessing capacity

Supports activities to develop and implement community based food systems from planning through to development and implementation. Food systems planning includes a broad range of activities that may include revitalization of traditional food systems, agriculture, community gardens, and local food sovereignty initiatives, and processing and preservation.

The Capital Infrastructure and Investments program supports the growth and expansion of Manitoba’s agri-processing sector. The program helps applicants with capital investment purchases for modernization and capacity-building activities that enhance efficiency, productivity, and environmental sustainability, by providing access to:
• The development and implementation of new technologies
• New markets through the implementation of quality control measures
• Streamlined and better managed operations, increased efficiency, and increased profitability by integrating company operations
• New revenue streams associated with co-packing services

The Canada-Manitoba Bee Mortality Assistance Program provides funding to Manitoba commercial beekeepers who experienced extraordinary costs due to overwinter losses during the winter of 2021/22.

Under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and AgriRecovery, commercial beekeepers, those with 50 or more hives, and registered with the province, can apply for funding for replacement colonies, nucleus colonies, package bees and/or queens.

The Relationship Development and Engagement program supports actions and activities related to engagement and enhancing relationships between Industry, academia, and Indigenous peoples. Community engagement is a critical component of project design, development and success. The program offers funding to eligible applicants to engage community members from project development through to project design and delivery.

To increase the environmental resilience of agricultural landscapes by accelerating the adoption of beneficial on-farm land use and management practices that increase carbon sequestration. These include practices that enhance provision of multiple ecological goods and services (EGS), which are the environmental benefits that result from the physical, chemical and biological processes of a healthy ecosystem.

The Market Development program is designed to advance the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sector's innovation and business capacity to maintain existing markets and capture emerging market opportunities. The program will provide financial assistance to eligible recipients for market development activities that enhance the interprovincial trade and export capacity of individual businesses and improve overall domestic and international trade access for the sector.

The Research and Innovation Program supports the development of science-based solutions and tools that address known challenges, prepare for potential disruptions and climate threats, and capture emerging opportunities in the agriculture and agri-food sector. The Program provides funding to eligible applicants for basic and applied research and capacity building projects that advance the growth and sustainability of the sector by fast-tracking the pace of innovation. This can include the development of new technologies and practices, new products, and the advancement of knowledge.

Support access to capital items required in implementing and/or scaling up food system/agriculture projects from production and processing to preservation. Funding may also support the adoption of new technologies into community owned infrastructure, including equipment purchases that support the transformation of raw products into value-added goods, enhance traditional harvesting practices, or bring new products into the market.

Sustainable Agriculture Manitoba (SAM) provides funding to primary producers and land managers to implement cost-shared beneficial management practices (BMPs). The objective of SAM is to increase the environmental and economic sustainability of agriculture operations in Manitoba. Priority areas include climate change adaptation and mitigation, air quality, water quality and quantity, soil health, and biodiversity.

The program aims to create an enabling environment for the development and adoption of clean technology that will help drive the changes required to achieve a low-carbon economy and promote sustainable growth in Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector.

The new Dairy Innovation and Investment Fund, announced in Budget 2023, will provide Canadian dairy processors with non-repayable contributions to help the dairy sector better manage the structural surplus of solids non-fat in Canada. This Fund will be delivered by the Canadian Dairy Commission on behalf of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Program objective:

The program provides repayable contributions to incent targeted commercialization, demonstration and/or adoption of commercial-ready innovative technologies and processes that increase agricultural and agri-food sector competitiveness and sustainability benefits.

The Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) supports projects that strengthen community food security and increase the availability and accessibility of local, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food through food production-focused activities for equity-deserving groups, particularly Indigenous and Black communities.

If you receive funding, you'll work to meet the program objectives

• support projects aimed at helping Indigenous Peoples and other underrepresented and marginalized groups in Canadian agriculture — including women, youth, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and official language minority communities — to fully participate in the sector by helping these groups address the key issues and barriers they often face for sector participation

• help activities that promote the benefits of a career in agriculture and that enhance the public's perception of agriculture and its role in the economy

• help Canadian organizations working in the agriculture and agri-food sector that:

  • engage, train and empower underrepresented and marginalized groups so they can succeed in the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector

  • work with Indigenous communities to increase their involvement in the sector thereby supporting the Government of Canada's commitment to reconciliation and inclusive economic growth

  • provide opportunities for sector participation to youth, women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and official language minority communities

• help Indigenous Peoples and other underrepresented and marginalized groups in the agriculture and agri-food sector:

  • become aware of business management strategies and tools. With training and the necessary tools, the sector will have the ability to adapt to emerging issues (for example, regulatory challenges, sustainability and market opportunities), and advance economic growth

  • enhance entrepreneurial capacity, business skills and sector leadership of Indigenous Peoples and other underrepresented and marginalized groups

  • learn about available career opportunities in the agriculture and agri-food sector

The program aims to strengthen the sector and build its capacity by:

• helping members from underrepresented and marginalized groups to develop their leadership skills to take on a greater leadership role

• building the entrepreneurial capacity and business skills of Indigenous Peoples and other underrepresented and marginalized groups in the agriculture and agri-food sector

• facilitating the sharing of industry experience, best practices and knowledge to help Indigenous Peoples and other underrepresented and marginalized groups manage transformation and adapt to changes in their business operations

• strengthening the sector by incorporating views from a greater diversity of sector players

The AgriMarketing Program is a $129.97-million program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).The program aims to increase and diversify exports to global markets and seize market opportunities via industry-led promotional activities to differentiate Canadian products and producers, by leveraging Canada's reputation for high-quality and safe food. The program supports a wide range of agricultural sectors, such as:field cropsfish and seafoodfood and beveragehorticulturelivestock

The objective of the Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative (IAFSI) is to increase economic development opportunities of Indigenous Peoples and communities in Canada. This initiative will support Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs who are ready to launch agriculture and food systems projects and others who want to build their capacity to participate in the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector.

Through this initiative, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) aims to contribute to the Government of Canada's commitment to reduce barriers for underrepresented groups and focus on building Indigenous Peoples' capacity to succeed in agriculture.

The initiative supports the development of partnerships between federal and non-federal partners, including Indigenous communities, provincial and territorial governments, and the private sector.

Help Canadian youth (aged 15 to 30) develop the skills and gain the experience they need to successfully transition into the labour market.
