Enhancing Indigenous Food Systems

This program supports the development and implementation of community-based food systems, from initial planning through to full implementation. It enables communities to design, expand, and strengthen local food networks tailored to their unique cultural and agricultural needs.

Eligible funding may include:

• Activities related to food systems planning, including needs assessments and stakeholder engagement
• Revitalization of traditional food practices and community agriculture initiatives
• Local food sovereignty, community gardens, and food processing or preservation efforts

This funding stream empowers communities to grow resilient food systems rooted in cultural relevance, sustainability, and local leadership.

Farmers, Producer Associations (all must be indigenous groups)

Eligible Purposes

This funding stream supports the implementation of projects identified in food system and business development plans. Eligible activities include:

• Professional services, communication materials, and subcontracted project support
• Salaries and wages for specialists involved in planning, research, or food system implementation
• Materials, supplies, and facility or equipment rentals directly tied to the project


Additional costs may be eligible if they support successful project completion and fall within approved overhead limits
