Agriculture Research and Innovation

This program provides funding for applied research, innovation, and adoption projects that directly address challenges and opportunities within the PEI agriculture sector. It aims to increase industry competitiveness through science-based solutions and knowledge transfer.

Eligible funding may include:
• Variety or livestock trials to improve yield, adaptability, or diversification
• Pest, climate, and clean technology research addressing emerging threats
• Knowledge transfer and outreach initiatives to share research outcomes

Projects must demonstrate direct benefit to PEI’s agriculture industry and promote sustainable innovation.

Agriculture Industry Associations: 75% of eligible expenses up to $60,000 (one-year) or $80,000 (multi-year)


Agricultural Producers: 50% of eligible expenses up to $30,000 (one-year) or $40,000 (multi-year)


Public/Academic Institutions and Agribusinesses: 25% of eligible expenses up to $30,000 (one-year) or $40,000 (multi-year)

Eligible Purposes

This funding stream supports applied research and innovation that delivers measurable value to PEI agriculture. Eligible activities include:

• Crop and livestock trials to improve yield, resilience, and commercialization
• Climate- and pest-focused research to address emerging production challenges
• Knowledge-sharing initiatives that bridge research and adoption on farms

Additional expenses may be eligible if they contribute to sustainable farm innovation and knowledge advancement.
