Small Community Opportunity

This program provides funding to help Indigenous and small rural communities address local challenges and pursue economic opportunities. Grants support capacity building in agriculture, tourism, and small business development, with a focus on workforce training and community-led project delivery. Eligible applicants include communities and non-profit organizations working in partnership.

Eligible funding may include:
• Skills training, salaries for project staff, and project-related supplies
• Equipment, software, and travel costs needed for delivery and outreach
• Marketing, promotion, and limited administrative expenses

The program helps rural communities build sustainable economic growth through locally led initiatives.

Eligible Purposes

This funding stream supports rural and Indigenous communities in building skills, tourism, and economic resilience. Eligible activities include:

• Skills development training, and project-related staffing
• Travel, supplies, and marketing for economic development initiatives
• Equipment, software, and limited project administration

Other expenses may be eligible if approved by the Government of Alberta and directly support project goals.
