Rural Economic Development

The Rural Economic Development (RED) program provides cost-share funding to help rural communities diversify their economies, address labour challenges, and attract or retain investments.

Eligible funding may support:
• Economic diversification and growth initiatives
• Infrastructure or service upgrades for investment readiness
• Community capacity-building and planning

These activities help strengthen rural economies and improve long-term prosperity.

Up to 50% of eligible expenses:
• Up to $150,000 for economic diversification projects
• Up to $250,000 at a 30% rate for strategic economic infrastructure projects

Non-profits, municipalities, local services board

Eligible Purposes

Funding may be used to support rural economic development, including:
• Economic diversification, growth planning, and business attraction
• Strategic infrastructure and investment-readiness upgrades
• Workforce development and local capacity-building initiatives
